Early Life
Pacino grew up in the South Bronx and studied at the Actors Studio, gaining early acclaim on stage.
Career
He became a star as Michael Corleone in The Godfather (1972) and reprised the role in two sequels. Other landmark films include Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface, Heat and Scent of a Woman (1992), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor after several earlier nominations.
Legacy
Pacino has also won two Tony Awards and an Emmy (for Angels in America, 2004), and received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2007.
