Early Life
O'Hara grew up in Toronto and joined the city's Second City improvisational troupe, where she began her comedy career.
Career
She was a cast member of the sketch series SCTV (1980–1984), winning an Emmy for writing. She played Kate McCallister in Home Alone (1990) and its sequel, and Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice (1988) and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024), and improvised in Christopher Guest's mockumentaries, including Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. She won a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek (2015–2020).
Legacy
O'Hara died at her home in Los Angeles on January 30, 2026, at age 71, after a brief illness, and tributes poured in from across the entertainment industry.
