Early Life
Maradona grew up in poverty in Villa Fiorito, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, and made his professional debut for Argentinos Juniors at 15.
Career
He played for Boca Juniors, Barcelona and, most memorably, Napoli, leading the Italian club to Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990. At the 1986 World Cup he captained Argentina to the title and scored two famous goals against England in the quarter-final: the controversial “Hand of God” and a solo run later voted the “Goal of the Century”.
Legacy
Maradona shared FIFA's Player of the Century award with Pelé and later coached Argentina and other clubs. He died in November 2020 at age 60.
